Creating a habit

Motivation vs. Habit: What Really Drives Us?

Many of us believe that motivation is the key to overcoming challenges. I used to think that too. But here’s the truth: there’s something more powerful than motivation — habit.

So, how can you build the habit to keep going, even when motivation fades?

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received came from my boss. He told me that even when you don’t feel like doing something or have a million reasons to put it off, if you have the smallest desire to take action, commit just 2 minutes to it. Don’t worry about the results or how much progress you’ll make in that time. Just focus on the task for two minutes. Before you know it, those two minutes can turn into 20, then an hour. And while there’s no guarantee that you’ll achieve the desired results, you’ll be moving forward — and that’s what matters.

As my boss often reminded me: “Every dream can end in success or failure. But if you don’t take action, you’ve already failed.”
